Two Duchesses, Two Styles: Who Does It Best?

We’ve come to love Kate’s classic, well-tailored pieces and traditional style. Meghan, on the other hand, still opts for simple styles, but makes more adventurous style choices that are often trend-focused. While Kate is always seen wearing beautiful clothes, Meghan never seems to let the clothes wear her.

On the big day, Kate chose a delicately-crafted dress by Alexander McQueen, with stunning lace sleeves; the result was regal and romantic. Meghan’s dress was far more minimalist, with a bateau necklace, her Clare Waight Keller by Givenchy dress channelled an Audrey Hepburn vibe.

Both brides opted for fairly natural makeup looks. Kate, wore her shining brunette locks half up with a slightly smoky eye. Meghan kept it very natural, sporting a purposely messy, low bun and very light makeup.

What can we say? Both brides nabbed truly dashing princes. We imagine William as responsible, kind and charming—while Harry clearly brings a roguish fun quality—but also an incredible thoughtfulness. With either guy, it’s a win!

While both brides held fairly simple bouquets, including the traditional sprig of myrtle, which symbolizes love and hope for the couple, Meghan’s was gathered in a more compact shape, which left it feeling slightly less formal. If you ask us, being fortunate to sport any royal tiara on your special day is pretty amazing—but still… let’s compare. Kate’s beautiful Cartier Halo Tiara was borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II's personal collection. Meghan’s Bandeau Tiara was originally dseigned for Queen Mary, and features a diamond brooch at the centre of the headpiece.

Kate and Meghan’s stylistic differences are front and centre when it comes to the wedding cake; while William and Kate selected an 8-tier traditional English fruitcake, Meghan and Harry kept it modern with a scrumptious lemon elderflower cake, displayed on freestanding tiers, for a more bohemian feel.

Each Duchess looked truly beautiful and ready to enjoy the after party in their second dresses. But while Kate chose a more romantic off-white satin dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Meghan rocked a sleek and sexy halter dress by Stella McCartney.

Many photos were snapped when both couples announced their official engagements. Kate & William kept it classy and royal, opting for a location of St. James Palace. Wills looked dashing in a bespoke suit, while Kate perfectly matched her dark blue wrap dress to her sapphire engagement ring.

In contrast, Harry and Meghan stayed true to their authentic and relaxed style, while keeping their choices deeply personal. They snapped their shots at Kensington Palace—both where Harry grew up and where the couple will live. Style icon, Meghan, opted for a beautiful white wrap coat by Line the Label—which promptly sold out and was remade again in her honour.

Both official engagement photos are stunning, intimate, and feel like the embody each couple’s personal styles—but if we have to choose, we love the soft lighting and romantic quality of Harry and Meghan’s pic.

When it comes to rings, we were totally wowed by Kate’s 12-carat oval blue sapphire surrounded by fourteen solitaire diamonds (which one belonged to Princess Diana). While Meghan’s ring is overflowing with sentimental meaning; custom-designed by Prince Harry with a cushion-cut central diamond sourced from Botswana (a country that holds a particularly special place in his heart) the gorgeous piece is flanked by two smaller diamonds from his mother, Princess Diana’s, collection, so that the she has a special place is their love story.

Keeping colour palettes neutral both Kate and Meghan wore beige-hued outfits for their firth post-wedding appearances. While Kate looked stylish and put together, we have to say, Meghan stole the show in her monochrome tea-length dress with sheer sleeves and matching hat.
