The Women of Ocean’s 8 Are Everywhere We Look, and It’s Amazing

Sky News

When Infinity War came out in April, the press tour was an event in itself: a massive cast of celebrities having fun together, doing interviews, singing songs, and bonding on-camera. The only issue was that the film is so male-dominated, we didn’t get a chance to see many women getting in on the fun.

How long must we wait (we asked ourselves) to see a cast of ladies touring a blockbuster film and getting up to their own press-junket hijinks?

As it turned out, we only had to wait about six weeks, because on June 7, we saw the release of Ocean’s 8, the newest and most woman-centric release in the Ocean’s 11 franchise, and the interviews with its female stars are completely endearing and hilarious.

Much of the fun of Infinity War came from putting wildly different actors in the same place and watching them bounce off of one another, and Ocean’s 8 has achieved the same effect. I mean, did you ever see you’d think you’d see Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna (it’s her film debut!), Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, and newcomer Awkwafina in the same place at the same time?

Naturally, their press events are slumber-party-meets-fashion-show in the best way. Here are some of the highlights:

The outfits at the film’s premiere

With a cast like this one, you can bet that the outfits at the premiere will rival the fashion at the Met Gala (which, incidentally, is the scene of the film’s heist). And the Ocean’s 8 stars did not disappoint, their outfits ranging from an electrifying highlighter-green Prada gown to a Givenchy dress that looks like a series of fantastical waterfalls. This had to have been the most photographable film premiere of the year.

The bizarre but delightful collision of Anne Hathaway and Rihanna’s worlds

Face it, if it weren’t for this movie, Anne Hathaway and RiRi probably wouldn’t hang out much. But when new mom Hathaway came to set, it may have been Rihanna who gave her the biggest confidence boost about her post-baby body.

“I walked on the set, and, you know, my weight’s a little up, and I’m just aware of it,” Hathaway said on Ellen. “And I walk on the set, and I’m in my jeans, and I’ve done my best, and I’m going to love myself no matter what. And Sandy Bullock looks up and goes, ‘Looking good, mama.’ That made me feel amazing!” she said. “And then Cate Blanchett’s like, ‘Nice jeans, Hathaway.’ And then Rihanna looks up and goes, ‘Damn girl, you got a ass!’ And I of course freaked out and loved it so much. I was like, ‘Really?!’ And she goes, ‘You got a ass like me!'”

Sarah Paulson on getting a song stuck in her head

“It was just sort of a daily struggle to not embarrass myself because every time I looked at [Rihanna],” Paulson told Ellen, “it was like, ‘Work work work work work.’”

Fortunately, there was a more seasoned cast member to help keep her in check.

“Sandy [Bullock] would just look at me and be like, ‘Hey, dial it down. Just stop.’”

The cast’s attempts to play “never have I ever”

Cate Blanchett may be a world-class actress, but she’s apparently incapable of holding up a sign or committing to an answer in this classic game (and we love her for it).

When Awkwafina mentioned a time she was fired, and Sarah Paulson and Sandra Bullock dragged the details out of her
